With the colder weather approaching for most people, staying warm and cozy yet still being fashionable is on many women’s minds. Here are some tips for having a cozy and comfortable style this winter.

Everyone loves bulky, warm wrap sweaters. They are the ultimate for lazing around on the couch. However, if you think these comfy tops are relegated to only going with sweat or lounge pants, think again and try a pair of leggings. Because they are tight fitting and stretchy, leggings give you a lean look that balances out the bulky sweater on top. Even celebrities like Rihanna wear bulky sweaters with chic boots, leggings, and a waist-slimming belt. For your thinner knits and cardigans, layering them together will achieve the same warmth with style. The only rule is to keep your knits in a similar color scheme so they don’t clash.

Vogue recommends, “When the temps turn freezing, nothing sounds more appealing than putting on your favorite pair of jeans and an ultra-long grandpa cardigan.” To avoid looking shapeless, try rolling the hem of your jeans up and pairing them with boots. This allows your legs to looks slimmer and as Vogue states, “You get to show off your favorite winter boots!” Packing away my summer wardrobe is one of the hardest things for me to do each year. Especially my flowy skirts and dresses. To get more out of your wardrobe, try pairing these lighter items with your sweaters, coats, and tights. This method works remarkably well if you pick non-seasonal colors like black, white, and brown.

Heavy coats are often a necessity when the winter winds whip everything into submission. Unfortunately, coats can make the wearer look large and frumpy. To balance out the heaviness of your coat, pair it with slim jeans. Cameron Diaz models this looks with tight quilted boots and a sleek bag as well to keep the look slim rather than large. Instead of an ordinary winter hat, consider trying something trendy and fun instead, like a fedora. This will draw attention to your face while still keeping you comfy and cozy.

PEAR SHAPE (Good upper body, narrow shoulders, wider bum or thighs) BikiniIf you want to slim your lower body and add volume to your upper body, go for plain darker bottoms and a patterned or bold coloured top. To bring the eye up, you can always go for a chunky necklace as well! Boy shorts can show off a flat stomach which pears very often have, and if cut high enough can give the illusion of a flat stomach, even if yours isn’t quite at washboard level yet!One-PieceGo for suits that are more interesting and shapely around the neckline and plainer at the bottom. One-pieces with padding on the bust and a gathered fabric will help to balance your figure by creating volume up top. Look for clever horizontal pleating in the middle to emphasise your waist.Cover upBuy a large sarong in dark bold colours or large prints and tie around the smallest part of your waist to create a maxi skirt down to the floor, which will lengthen and slim your legs. Wear with your bikini top to show off your toned upper body. Go for nude coloured sandals or shoes to elongate your legs.APPLE SHAPE (Generous bust and tummy, short waist, good legs)BikiniHalterneck styles are often good for apple shapes as they break up the bust and shoulders and also provide added support for generous busts. Go for colour on the bottoms and a plainer top, or just choose one colour all over. Another style of bikini top to try is a balconette style which will lift and separate your bust, giving you a longer waist and a more hourglass figure. Some apples are conscious of their bellies, if so opt for a bikini bottom that sits just below your belly button with a high cut leg to flatten your stomach or opt for a Lycra tankini with a longer top to hold you in.One-PieceHeart shape necklines will help to create softer lines around the bust and break up the volume a bit making you look slimmer all over. Halterneck styles will look sexy and offer you enough support if you want to hit the swimming pool but ensure your bosoms are contained! Hidden bust support is always a great idea for bustier ladies.Cover upUse a large sarong that goes down to the floor, hold two corners of the sarong then twist the fabric, swapping hands to create a halterneck cover up. The style will add structure to your top half, drape down over your body to hide your belly yet show off your fantastic legs.

HOURGLASS SHAPE(Shoulders and Hips at same width, natural waist)BikinisHorizontal stripes look great on hourglasses as it highlights your curves and your waist. However, keep the leg cut quite high on your bikini bottoms to avoid looking too wide on the hips.Halterneck styles look great on hourglass shapes.One-PieceDeep V halternecks with a built in belt or waist panel will really emphasise the hourglass shape, boosting your bust to perfection and slimming your waist giving.Cover UpKaftans with a cinched waist and low open neck will emphasise your shape nicely. Go mini or maxi depending on how much leg you want to show.

PETITE FiguresBikinisTriangle style bikinis look great on petit colours. Go for small prints and bright colours which will add more depth and ruffles and frills will help you to give the illusion of curves. Stay away from large prints might overwhelm your small figure.Ties at the hips on the bikini bottoms will add width to your hips if you are quite slim and want to create more curves.One-PieceVertical lines elongate the body so will make you look longer were as small prints, ruffles and frills will add just enough volume to your figure. Spaghetti straps look great on small bods like yours.Cover upsPetite figures can wear little shorts and vest tops and always look fantastic! A smock or tunic top can be a nice alternative but don’t go mad with prints or colours as it could drown you.TALL AND SLIM FiguresBikinisA lot of tall ladies can feel self-conscious about their height and sometimes feel too skinny, but you can get away with anything when it comes to beach wear so go for bright, bold prints in interesting cuts, which will break up the length of your body. One PieceLook for swimsuits that are cut out with ruches, ruffles, pleats and frills on which will give the appearance of more curves. A halterneck style will give the appearance of a more generous cleavage whilst delicate stringy straps will show off your slender arms and shoulders.Cover UpLong maxi style kaftans and dresses look amazing on you, worn with simple flats. Again you can go for prints and colours or keep it plain and just add some bangles and a necklace to complete your look.BOYISH AND ATHLETIC Body ShapesBikinisRuche details on tops and bottoms will add shape to your figure. Look for bright colours and feminine prints to add softness to your figure. Also try bandeau styles in a woven fabric which can give the illusion of sexy curves.One-PieceCut out and scoop side swimsuits and two tone one-pieces can add depth and curves to your figure. Even better if the garments has a patterned fabric with some feminine detail on. Details and frills will add interest and give the illusion of greater shape and volume and you are one of the few shapes who can get away with an extremely low cut v neck – I’m talking down to your belly button if you dare!Cover UpGo for softer, flowing more feminine fabrics to create fluidity, movement and curves. A huge trend for s/s09 is fringing, were a fringed summer dress would look incredible on you, as would three dimensional floral garments.CURVY Body ShapesBikinisGo all 50’s and look for high waisted briefs in a polka dot or vertical stripe and team with a little belt and halterneck style bikini top to create the ultimate glamour in poolside wear. Big black shades are a must here.

Remember that oversized prints disguise any lumps and bumps so look for large animal prints, which are massive in s/s09 or bold tribal prints to create an on trend beach look that is sexy and slimming.One-pieceYou can trick the eye in to seeing a flatter tummy by boosting the bust so look for swimwear that offers in built support. Look for Lycra styles that will hold you in at all the right places and go for deep v necks which will break up the bust. Go for plain all in ones which will elongate the body or bold large prints which will disguise any lumps and bumps.Cover UpsA kaftan that is nipped in at the waist yet still flowing and loose will look chic on you. If you want to show a bit more cleavage use a sarong wrapped around your waist going all the way down to the floor which will lengthen your legs, hide your stomach whilst leaving your best assets still on show.

Are you tired of hiding your body by wearing clothes that end up unflattering and do the exact opposite of what you hoped for? Do you want to look sexy but is a little hesitant because you might be ‘too fat’? Don’t cover your body up with baggy clothes and instead embrace your curves. Here are a few rules and tips that might help you accent your best features and end up looking 10 pounds lighter.
Choose Your Clothes
If you want to look lighter then you have to remember that you just can’t shop indiscriminately. You have to be more cautious and really take the time out to consider if an article of clothing is flattering on you or not.
The first basic rule is to build your wardrobe and make darker colors the basis like navy, black and charcoal gray. Darker colors give you a smoother silhouette and are more forgiving when it comes to concealing certain parts that you might want to hide. If you are going to buy a piece of clothing that you are going to use a lot like a jacket, a blazer or slacks, then choose one with dark colors.
Use undergarments that give you the support that your body needs as well contours and shapes your body. Undergarment foundations like all-in-one shapers to pantyhose could help you keep those curves under control. Focus more on playing up your best features so if you have great legs, then show those off with a knee -length skirt.
Avoid fabrics that do not cling as they do not give you the smooth silhouette that you want. At the same time, keep away from clothes that are too tight or too clingy. You wouldn’t want to look like an overstuffed turkey now, would you? Scale your accessories like earrings, bags and hats, to your size, making sure that they do not look too big or too small for you.
Create a clean silhouette by sticking to clean-lined clothing without too much embellishments like big buttons or big bows. Create strong vertical lines so you look taller and slimmer. You can do this by opting for a monochromatic outfit and avoiding anything, like a big belt, which can cut you in half visually. Also leave your jackets and cardigans unbuttoned for they might also visually cut you in half. When choosing pantyhose hues, make sure that it matches the color of your skirt and the color of your shoes as it creates the illusion of having longer legs.
If you are a little worried about your arms but still want to wear sleeveless clothes, then you can do that by wearing a shawl, or a sheer top or a bolero jacket. You still achieve a sexy look but keep the areas that you want to hide hidden.
Finally, if you want less attention on your body then draw it to your face. Wear earrings or scarves for they direct attention and frame your face. Don’t think that hiding your body in baggy clothes will make you look better, in fact clingy, body-conscious clothes hinting at your curves that will suit you best.

With dozens of brands of jeans and so many different styles, how is a girl to find her perfect fit?

Jeans come in all forms from ‘around the house casuals’ to ‘hot ‘n’ sexy flirtatious’, so first decide what look you are going for.

Knowing a few tricks of the trade that the Hollywood divas’ dressers use, can help you find the perfect match to flatter your figure. So here are some “Do’s” and “Don’ts” to help you look your best.

How to choose jeans that:1) show off your butt2) draw attention away from butt, thighs, waist, tummy bulge3) produce a slimmer, sleaker outline

Identify your figure type. Certain cuts of jeans will slim you and show off your good features. If you are the skinny supermodel type (like so many of us are! J), the selection is relatively simple and boils down to how much you are willing to spend. All the low cuts work for you. To draw attention to that sexy little bottom, look for rear pockets that are close together and have an eye-catching pattern.

For the rest of us, it is really helpful to know that jeans with a slight stretch and straight legs can produce a slimming effect. Also darker colored denims are more slimming than the lighter shades.

To flatten the tummy, mid-rise jeans tend to look best.

High-waisted jeans can make a bulge even more prominent, drawing undesired attention to the mid section.

Wide belts attract the viewer’s eye to the waist. If that is not your intention, select a jean with smaller belt loops and wear a belt that blends in rather than pops out.

Obviously, tight jeans emphasize the thighs and buttocks. If that is not the look you are going for, check out the straight leg cuts.

Jeans with higher pockets are the best choice for de-emphasizing the rear end as they tend to draw the eye higher up the pant.

Flared jeans look great on long-legged ladies but be aware that the flare can make short legs look even shorter. If you are under 5’3” straight or tapered jeans are probably a better choice.

Tapered legs emphasize curves and straight cut legs even out the proportions.

You will find a huge selection of jeans out there today. The industry has done a great job and there truly is a best-fit jean for everyone.

So if finding just the right pair of jeans is your goal, bring along a friend whose opinion you trust, take your time and have a blast trying on as many pairs as it takes. While you are at it, include a nice lunch (after all, a girl needs to keep up her strength for a jean marathon) and make a fun day of it!

Ever wonder why it takes your wife so long to get ready? Does it blow your mind how she tries on six different outfits before she decides on the one she will wear? Well gentlemen, the answer to these age old questions is because she is paying attention to minor details that she knows make a difference. Before she leaves the house she makes sure that all pieces of the image puzzle are in order so she looks her best. Now I’m not saying that you need to spend hours in your closet or the mirror primping but I am saying that you need to understand and correct some of the basic image mistakes that we all are guilty of from time to time.Let me now take the time to outline the top 10 biggest issues that I see on a daily basis. We will identify the problems and also give you easy to follow and apply solutions in an attempt to prevent you from committing these all too common fashion faux pas.Image Killer #1Dressing Your AgeOne of the biggest mistakes a man can make in attempt to be fashionable and cool is dressing younger than they are. Nothing is more obvious or embarrassing than a man in his 40’s or 50’s who dresses like he is 20. It may be true that the clothes are indeed cool and extremely stylish, however if they are not age appropriate you will just end up looking like a big cheese ball. The Solution:While shopping in a particular store or shop, look around. Are the other patrons dramatically younger than you? Are the associates still in high school? If the answer to these questions are yes, then more than likely the clothes in that store are not for you. Paying attention to these two simple rules will surely point you in the right direction. Image Killer #2Ill Fitting ClothingWhen I tell you that your clothes should fit you, most of you may be thinking “Duh”. But, give me a chance to explain. A lot of men are wearing clothing that is too large for them or too small for them. A common misconception is that if you are a larger man you should buy larger shirts to minimize your weight. This couldn’t be further from the truth. What happens is that in an attempt to camouflage your weight you only make yourself look heavier and larger than you are. On the flip side, some of you buy clothes that are smaller than you actually are. Just because you can get the pants buttoned doesn’t mean that they fit. You will only look like a sausage if you go out of the house. The Solution:If you currently buy shirts that are very loose fitting, go down a size. You will be amazed at the amount of compliments you receive and inquiries asking if you have lost weight. With pants, make sure that you can get your fingers comfortably in between you and your waist band. This may require you to go up a size or even two. Have no fear, you aren’t getting larger, you are now wearing pants that fit.Image Killer #3Pleated/Cuffed PantsMany men are guilty of these fashion no no’s. Most men have a desire to look their best. If your best means you want to look heavier than you are then wear the pleats. But, if you want to appear slimmer and taller then it may be time to ditch the pleats. The goal is to create a nice straight line from the waist down to your shoes. Anything that breaks the visual line will detract from you looking your best. Cuffs on your pants are nothing but extra fabric that breaks the crisp clean line and ultimately giving you the appearance of being shorter than you are.The SolutionGo and try on a nice pair of flat front non cuffed pants. You will be amazed at how much thinner and taller you will look. This simple change will dramatically enhance your look and image.Image Killer #4Wrong Pant LengthMany men are wearing pants that are either too short or too long. Both of these are detrimental to your image. Pants that are too short make you look like you are wearing high waters and quite frankly make you look like a big dork. On the flip side, pants that are too long will only cause them to bunch up at the shoe creating an illusion of being shorter and heavier than you are.The SolutionPants should be long enough that they have a break in them. The back of your pant leg should come down to the middle or top of your heal. Remember that depending on the shoe that you are wearing, some pants may be fine with some shoes and not with others. If you wear boots, you may need a slightly longer pant then you wear with dress shoes. Image Killer #5Tapered/Out Dated JeansTapered jeans are not just out dated, but hurting your image and style. A tapered leg doesn’t allow for your jean to fit over the top of your shoe. Instead you have a gathering of fabric at the top of you foot, creating a sloppy appearance. The SolutionIf you aren’t sure if your jeans are tapered or not, here is an easy test. Take your jeans and lay them on your bed face up. Take the bottom of the jean and fold the pant leg so that the bottom is lined up with where your knee would be. If the bottom is less wide than the knee then indeed they are tapered and new jeans should be on your to do list. When looking for new jeans, you will notice that there are a few different cuts or styles to choose from. Look for straight leg or even boot cut jeans. The goal is to allow the jean to fall over the top of your shoe creating a nice clean line from your waist to your feet. Bunching of fabric will only make you look short and sloppy. Neither of these are good looks for anyoneImage Killer #6Floral Print ShirtsUnless you are in the tropics or on a cruise, these shirts are dorky. If you are in the tropics or on a cruise….good for you and wear the shirts. The SolutionChoose shirts that are a solid color or a small pattern. Don’t buy something that you think is “cute” or “funny”. You won’t look cute but you will look funny. Image Killer #7Bad ShoesShoes are in my opinion the most important aspect of an outfit. By choosing chunky or bulky shoes, you will only look like a clown. Overly square toes (pilgrim) are also a think of the style past. They were cool a few years ago, but they are now taking a back seat to a sleeker and more stream lined shape and trend. We should also include shoes that are overly worn or scuffed. The SolutionTake care of your shoes. Once a month take the time to polish your shoes and make sure not to forget about the heal. Spend the money on good quality shoes. If taken care of they will last you for years. Choose shoes that are simple yet stylish. Stay away from overly ornate stitching or overly drastic shapes (square or pointed). Remember, shoes should not draw attention to them selves, but rather tie the package together. Stay away from shoes that are ultra trendy due to the fact that they will be out of style quickly. Image Killer #8Sneakers With EverythingAthletic shoes should be worn when exercising. They are not your go to pair of shoes suitable for every activity and occasion. The SolutionMost of the time men choose to wear sneakers due to a lack of variety or depth of current foot wear. Spend the time and money buying a variety of shoes that are appropriate for a variety of occasions. You need a pair to be worn with shorts (non athletic), casual and professional.Image Killer #9Belt and Shoe Mismatch Black shoes and brown belt is the most obvious, however you need to also consider the style of shoes and belt as well. The SolutionDress shoes require a dress belt. This means that if your shoes have a shine, the belt should also have a similar finish. Black is an easy color to match, there is only one black. Brown however is a bit trickier; there are 20 different shades of brown. When trying to pick a belt to match your shoes, wear the shoes into the store. If you try to just wing it from memory, you are bound to be disappointed once you get home. Image Killer #10Inappropriate DressHave you ever had the feeling that you are underdressed for a specific event or occasion? We have all had this happen to us at one time or another. This is one of the most common blunders one can make. The SolutionPrior to attending any gathering or event, know what is expected. One good way is to look at your wife and what she is wearing. Is she in jeans and a T-shirt? If not, then this is a good indication that you shouldn’t be either. Remember, it is always better to be over dress as opposed to underdressed. Remember to pay attention to those minor details, and you will have a killer image… rather than killing your image! alpha m. Image Consulting was launched back in 2006 by founder Aaron Marino. Aaron realized that there was a lack of resources and options for men to receive real world help and advice regarding their image, style and grooming. Our goal is to help the modern man look and feel the best that he can… every day of his life.
